Smoothie Bowls

The start of a new year often brings a renewed focus on eating a little better and feeling more energized — but real life is still busy, and not everyone has time for complicated meals. That’s where smoothie bowls come in.

Smoothie bowls are simple, nourishing, and incredibly flexible. They’re quick to make, easy to prep ahead, and perfect for those mornings when you want something fresh and wholesome without spending time in the kitchen. With a good base recipe, you can mix and match flavors, fruits, and toppings to keep things interesting all week long.

Smoothie Bowls - One Base, Four Easy Variations

The Base Smoothie Bowl

This base is creamy, naturally sweet, and filling without being heavy. Once you’ve got this right, the rest is just about having fun.

Ingredients

1 frozen banana

½ cup frozen berries

½ cup Greek yoghurt

¼–½ cup milk (or milk of choice)

1 tablespoon oats or chia seeds

Method

Blend until thick and spoonable. Adjust liquid slowly — smoothie bowls should be thicker than a drink.

Classic Berry Bowl

A simple, crowd-pleasing option that works any time of day.

Add to the base

Extra handful of mixed berries

Toppings

Fresh berries

Granola

A drizzle of honey

Dairy-Free Tropical Bowl

Light, fresh, and perfect if you’re avoiding dairy or want something brighter in flavor.

Swap in the base

Coconut yoghurt instead of Greek yoghurt

Coconut milk or almond milk instead of regular milk

Add

½ cup frozen mango or pineapple

Toppings

Toasted coconut

Sliced banana

Chopped mango

High-Protein Power Bowl

Great for busy mornings, post-workout breakfasts, or when you need something that keeps you full longer.

Add to the base

1 scoop vanilla or unflavoured protein powder

Extra tablespoon Greek yoghurt or nut butter

Toppings

Nuts or seeds

Peanut or almond butter

Cacao nibs or dark chocolate shavings

Kid-Friendly Chocolate Banana Bowl

Sweet, fun, and nutritious — without feeling “healthy” to little ones.

Add to the base

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

Extra banana if needed for sweetness

Toppings

Sliced banana

A few chocolate chips

Crushed biscuits or cereal

Make-Ahead & Busy Life Tips

  • Freeze fruit in portion-sized bags for quick blending

  • Prep toppings in jars at the start of the week

  • Keep the base neutral so everyone can customize their own bowl

  • Smoothie bowls also work well as an easy afternoon snack or light dinner
