A Waldorf salad is a classic American dish that typically consists of chopped apples, celery, walnuts, and mayonnaise, mixed and served on a bed of lettuce. It was created at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City in the late 19th century. Some variations may include grapes or raisins, and the dressing may be made with yogurt or sour cream instead of mayonnaise.
I love a Waldorf salad with fish or chicken dishes but you can also add some cooked chicken to the salad for a more filling main meal.
Ingredients
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Buttermilk
1 teaspoon Lemon juice
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Honey
1 cup Seedless grapes, cut in half
100g Walnuts, chopped
3 sticks of Celery, diced
2 Apples, diced
2 tablespoons Chives, diced
1/2 Cos lettuce, roughly chopped
Directions
Whisk the mayonnaise, buttermilk, lemon juice, honey, and Dijon in a large bowl till smooth. Season with salt & pepper.
Add the apples, grapes, celery, walnuts, lettuce, and chives to the bowl and toss to coat.
This salad can last 3-4 days in the fridge.
